FedEx BURR Ramp Facility – Bob Hope Airport, City of Burbank
AESCO performed materials testing and inspection during the ramp upgrade project at the Federal Express hub at the Bob Hope Airport. The project consisted of the removal of approximately 165,000 square feet of existing aircraft parking ramp with asphalt concrete pavement. AESCO performed testing and inspection of asphalt concrete pavement, Portland
cement concrete and geotechnical testing and inspection for the project.
SR-91, City of Buena Park, Orange County
AESCO completed a geotechnical investigation, a Phase II environmental investigation, an
Aerially Deposited Lead Survey, and a Materials Report for the widening of the Eastbound SR-
91 Freeway On-Ramp from Northbound Beach Boulevard, in the City of Buena Park. The onramp
is being upgraded from a single mixed-flow lane to a double mixed-flow lane. AESCO
logged and classified soils borings, performed laboratory testing, reviewed existing reports,
tested for the presence of hydrocarbons, tested for the presence of aerially deposited lead.
Recommendations were provided for new retaining wall foundations, new pavement,
embankment fill, and treatment of existing soil during construction.
Caltrans SR-22 Widening Project - OCTA
AESCO was responsible for the inspection and mix design alternatives and recommendations for
the Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) and Lean Concrete Base for the widening and overall
improvement of the 22 Freeway for Orange County Transit Authority (OCTA) and Caltrans.
AESCO performed aggregate testing and evaluations of the concrete and performed on-site mix
design trials. AESCO recommended the most appropriate mix design and additives based on
California Test methods. AESCO tested the concrete products during placement which included
aggregate testing, concrete cylinders, LCB samples and flexural strength beam tests. AESCO
regularly tested the flexural strength of the concrete during the pavement construction. Break
schedules were performed through our computer software and digital reports were produced that
were electronically shipped to clients.
Avenue, Magnolia Street, Garfield Avenue, Gothard Street, etc. – City of Huntington Beach, Department of Public Works
AESCO performed a site survey of several roadway to evaluate the condition of existing
pavement structural sections. Borings were performed and logged and laboratory testing was
conducted to determine condition of the subgrade. Construction recommendations were provided
for ten and twenty year life for new pavement structural sections and/or overlaying of the
existing pavement.
Roadway Improvements-White Avenue- City of Pomona, Department of Public Works
AESCO performed materials testing and inspection during the rehabilitation and pavement
reconstruction of White Avenue in the City of Pomona. The testing and inspection serviced
included a review of the concrete mix designs, concrete testing and inspection, rebar inspection,
aggregate testing, subgrade testing and inspection, base material evaluation and testing, asphalt
batch plant inspection, and asphaltic concrete testing..
Fairmont Avenue Extension Project – City of Glendale
AESCO performed materials testing and inspection during the construction of a 3-mile extension
of Fairmont Avenue in the City of Glendale. The testing and inspection serviced included a
review of the concrete mix designs, concrete testing and inspection, concrete batch plant
inspection, pile inspection and logging, rebar inspection, aggregate testing, welding inspection,
subgrade testing and inspection, base material evaluation and testing, and asphaltic concrete
testing. AESCO prepared the QA/QC manual and concrete mix designs for the project.
Whitegates Reservoirs 1 & 2 – City of Riverside
AESCO performed concrete mix designs for the construction of two 5M gallon underground
concrete reservoirs. AESCO prepared the QA/QC manual for the project. AESCO performed
materials testing and inspection during construction. AESCO performed full materials testing
and inspection services during project construction. AESCO was responsible for continuous
welding inspection, rebar inspection and testing, concrete quality inspection and testing,
foundation inspection, fill testing services, pavement design and inspection services, grout
inspection, masonry inspection, and other related construction inspection activities.
Bus Facility Pavement Reconstruction-OCTA
AESCO was responsible for the inspection and materials testing for new asphaltic concrete
pavement, base, subbase, and subgrade for the access road to the Bus Maintenance Facility
located at 11790 Cardinal Circle, Garden Grove. AESCO performed sieve analyses, moisture
contents and densities on drive samples obtained from the subgrade. All reports were digitally
sent to OCTA daily.
Gas to Energy Facilities – City of Calabasas, Yorba Linda, Santa Clarita
AESCO performed a geotechnical investigation for a gas to energy facility at the Calabasas,
Brea-Olinda and Chiquita Canyon landfill. The facilities included the installation of gas turbines
mounted on concrete slabs, a combustion turbine generator, chilled water systems, polishing
systems, compressed air systems, a step-up transformer, switch gears, auxillary transformers, a
main building and control room, trenching and piping, and miscellaneous structures. New access
roads were also constructed. Slope stability and liquefaction analyses were also performed.
Generator Building – VA Hospital, Long Beach
AESCO performed a geotechnical investigation for a new single-story generator structure.
Logging and sampling of several borings, laboratory testing, and a seismic and geologic review
were performed. Recommendations were provided for shallow foundations.
Belmont Building/Friendship Square – City of Bellflower, Community Development
AESCO performed full construction inspection services during the construction of the outdoor
shopping center with outdoor seating. AESCO performed the majority of the special inspection
services during construction which included, fill inspection/ testing (fill acceptance, compaction
tests, classification tests), welding inspection (fabrication welding inspection, bolt torque

Expansion of 12kV Power System – Disneyland Resort, Anaheim
AESCO has also performed construction materials testing and inspection for construction of the
electrical infrastructure to support expansion additions to the existing 12kV power system
network in Disneyland and extending into the City of Anaheim. Three new switching stations
were installed with electrical ducts running through the Disneyland Resort facilities including
through the Simba parking lot, the Timon parking lot, the Back-Of-House, and through
Disneyland Drive. The project included demolition, removal, or reinstallation of existing
facilities, refinishing of all surfaces within the work areas, restoring the existing plumbing
system and equipment to operational conditions, restoring the existing electrical system and
equipment to operational condition.
Lift Station D, Atlanta and Beach Lift Station, Lift Station 4 – City of Huntington Beach, Department of Public Works
AESCO performed geotechnical and environmental investigations for three major lift stations.
The investigations included drilling and logging borings and well construction. Pump tests were
performed on the wells and environmental testing was conducted on the pumped water.
Inclinometers were installed to measure the effects of construction on the surrounding area.
AESCO collected and evaluated groundwater before and during construction. AESCO
recommended a shoring system and dewatering system to stabilize the 50-foot excavation less
than a mile from the coast. Aquifer recharge due to the dewatering system and pumping
activities was determined. The geotechnical investigation included a seismic hazard evaluation,
laboratory testing, foundation recommendations, bearing pressures, liquefaction analysis, CIDH
recommendations, site preparation recommendations, and alternative types of foundations for the
new construction. AESCO also participated in providing the bid documents for construction.
The California Department of Water Resources (CDWR) and the City of Huntington Beach were
involved in the regulatory portion of the project. Discharge permits were obtained from the
CDWR.
Springdale Reservoir – City of Huntington Beach, Department of Public Works
AESCO performed full construction inspection services during the construction of the 150
million gallon capacity reservoir. The reservoir is partially below ground surface. AESCO
performed the majority of the special inspection services during construction of the reservoir.
The work consisted of fill inspection/ testing (fill acceptance, compaction tests, classification
tests), welding inspection (fabrication welding inspection, bolt torque testing), foundation
inspection, and pavement inspection (asphaltic testing, subgrade preparation inspection and testing).
Lakewood Sheriff’s Station – City of Lakewood
AESCO was responsible for all soil and material testing and inspection during construction for a
new service garage, office building and repair facility. Geotechnical fill testing services consisted
of sand cone tests and nuclear in-place density tests, and laboratory testing such as, maximum
dry density, expansion index, and gradation. AESCO provided continuous testing and inspection
of concrete, backfill testing, subgrade inspection, welding inspection; rebar inspections, asphaltic
testing and inspection, etc. AESCO also performed a geotechnical investigation for the new
facilities.
California State University, Los Angeles
AESCO completed a geotechnical investigation to provide foundation recommendations for a
two-story public safety structure which was approximately 16,000 square feet, and two singlestory
structures which were approximately 8,500 square feet each. Shallow foundation and
retaining wall recommendations were provided.
Senior Center – City of Lynwood
AESCO performed materials testing and inspection and geotechnical engineering for a new
11,000 square foot senior center. AESCO provided continuous testing and inspection services
during construction for the grading (fill compaction, foundation excavation, and fill acceptance)
and placement of the concrete. The geotechnical investigation included the review of existing
reports, logging and sampling of several borings, laboratory testing, and a seismic and geologic
review. AESCO reviewed existing geotechnical recommendations and provided an alternative
feasible foundation recommendation to accommodate the type of construction.
Walter D. Ehlers Senior and Community Center Expansion-City of Buena Park Senior Center
AESCO performed materials testing and inspection and geotechnical engineering for a new
9,200 square foot, single-story social hall, a new entry canopy and associated parking and drive
areas. The parking and drive areas encompassed approximately 7,500 square feet. AESCO
provided continuous testing and inspection services during construction for the grading (fill
compaction, foundation excavation, subgrade preparation, and fill acceptance) and placement of
the concrete. The geotechnical investigation included the review of existing reports, logging and
sampling of several borings, laboratory testing, and a seismic and geologic review. Liquefaction
analysis was also performed.
Storm Drain Modification-OCTA
AESCO performed materials testing and inspection for the modifications to the existing storm
drain at the Anaheim Bus Base located 1717 East Via Burton. AESCO performed testing and
inspection of the storm drain backfill and reinforced concrete. AESCO also performed
maximum density testing at the laboratory. All reports were digitally sent to OCTA daily.
Animal Care Facility– County of Orange
AESCO performed full materials testing and inspection services during rehabilitation of the
animal care facility. The new construction included new asphaltic concrete parking and new
retaining walls. The work consisted of fill inspection/ testing including; fill acceptance,
compaction testing of the subgrade, classification tests, and pavement inspection (asphalt testing, subgrade preparation inspection and testing). AESCO performed their portion of the work in a
timely fashion without any delay or rescheduling, and within budget.
Design/Build Emergency Vehicle Service Bay Structure for Homeland Security - Central Net Fire Training Facility, City of Huntington Beach
AESCO performed construction supervision and materials testing and inspection for a new
service bay structure for emergency vehicles for disaster relief at the Central Net Fire Training
Facility (Gothard Street Fire Station). AESCO performed inspection and density testing during
the overexcavation and recompaction of the site. Footing inspections, utility inspections, the
placement of reinforcement for the footings, and rebar in the floor slab were also performed.
AESCO also tested and inspected reinforced concrete during placement, torque, high strength
bolts and reviewed structural plans at the site. Testing and inspection was also performed for
the new concrete pavement at the site which would support the large, heavy vehicles.
State Route 405, 134, 210, 605, 170 and Interstate 10 Freeways – Washington Infrastructure, Tetra Tech and Parsons Brinckerhoff
AESCO completed Phase I and Phase II environmental investigations for freeway expansion
projects throughout Los Angeles County. These projects involved corresponding with various
regulatory agencies and obtaining permits from several state and federal regulatory agencies.
Phase I investigations consisted of performing site reconnaissance and review of environmental
records of the subject site. Phase II investigations involved sampling for hazardous materials
identified in the Phase I investigations. AESCO was responsible for maintaining the chain of
custody for all samples.
State Route 405, 134, 210, 605, 170 and Interstate 10 Freeways – Washington Infrastructure, Tetra Tech and Parsons Brinckerhoff AESCO completed geotechnical investigations for freeway
County. AESCO logged and classified soil borings, performed laboratory testing and provided
geotechnical reports which included foundation design recommendations and a seismic hazards
screening. AESCO also performed research on existing geotechncial and geologic reports
which.
Long Beach Community College Pacific Coast Campus – Long Beach Community College District
AESCO completed a geotechnical investigation for a new learning resource center. AESCO
logged and classified soil borings, performed laboratory testing and provided a geotechnical
report which included foundation and pavement design recommendations, liquefaction analysis,
and seismic hazards screening.
Fairmount Park– City of Riverside, Department of Parks and Recreation
AESCO performed a geotechnical investigation and materials testing and inspection for a new
wood-framed structure and new asphaltic concrete parking. The geotechnical investigation
consisted of logging and sampling soil borings, providing recommendations for foundation
design (shallow foundations), and design recommendations for the new asphaltic concrete
parking lot. Materials testing and inspection included fill acceptance, compaction testing of the
subgrade, classification tests, footing inspections, and pavement inspection (asphalt testing,
subgrade preparation inspection and testing).
Lambert Park – City of Huntington Beach, Department of Public Works
AESCO performed a geotechnical investigation for a repair of a failing slope at the existing park.
The investigation included logging and sampling of several borings, laboratory testing, slope
stability analyses, and a seismic and geologic review. AESCO provided recommendations for
deepened and shallow foundations.
Gun Range, Central Park – City of Huntington Beach, Department of Public Works
AESCO performed a geotechnical investigation for a closed gun range in accordance with
CEQA guidelines and for the stockpile of asphalt and concrete. The investigation included
logging and sampling of several borings, performing percolation testing, laboratory testing, and a
seismic and geologic review. Foundation and retaining wall recommendations were provided.
Orange Coast College-American Tower Corporation
AESCO completed a geotechnical and materials investigation for an existing for an existing 45-
foot tall monopole (monoelm) at the subject site. The project involved extending the tower to a
height of 60 feet (an addition of 15 feet) and adding additional antennae. The purpose of the
report was to obtain a Notice of Completion from the DSA for the existing tower. A 50-foot
deep boring was performed as well as pull tension tests, welding tests and testing of the steel.
Baldwin Park Unified School District:
High School, Central Elementary School, De Anza Elementary School, Baldwin Park School District Office, Elwin Elementary School, Foster Elementary School, Jerry D. Holland Middle School, Charles D. Jones Junior High, Olive Middle School, Pleasant View Elementary School, Tracy Elementary School, Vineland Elementary School, Walnut Elementary School – Chevron Energy SolutionsAESCO performed geotechnical investigations for new solar energy facilities at 13 campuses of
the Baldwin Park Unified School District. The facility included the installation of 18 arrays of
solar panels placed throughout each school campus. Geotechnical and geologic reports were
produced which were prepared in accordance with the requirements of the California Code of
Regulations, Title 24 Part I.
Maintenance and Operations Facility - Alhambra School District
AESCO performed a Phase II environmental investigation for the removal of several
underground storage tanks and dispenser islands at the maintenance facility for the Alhambra
School District. The purpose of the Phase II investigation was to define the vertical and lateral
extent of recognized contamination at the site; to prepare a remedial action plan (RAP) to
mitigate the contamination; and to obtain a closure permit from the County of Los Angeles.
Several geoprobe direct push borings were performed and samples were tested for the presence
of hydrocarbons. The Department of State Architect, the USGS and the Alhambra Unified
School District were involved in the regulatory portion of the project.
Adult Education Center – Alhambra Unified School District
AESCO performed a Phase I environmental site assessment in conformance with the scope and
limitations of ASTM practice E 1527 at the Adult Education Center located on Palm Avenue.
The purpose of the study was to evaluate probable past site uses and assess the environmental
condition of the subject site. The study was conducted to identify potential contaminant sources
adjacent to and within the project area that may have an impact on the subject site.
Monte Verde Park – City of Lakewood
AESCO performed full soil and materials testing and inspection services for Monte Verde Park.
The project consisted of construction of a new park, including a 5,000 square foot conference
center, and a large asphaltic paved parking area. AESCO’s inspectors performed subgrade
preparation inspection and testing for the parking and drive areas. Subgrade preparation included
overexcavation to a depth of three feet and replacement with a selected fill material.
Geotechnical fabric was used to stabilize the poor, wet soils at the bottom of the excavation.
AESCO continuously inspected and tested placement of the asphaltic concrete during
construction. Geotechnical testing services consisted of sand cone tests, nuclear in-place density
tests, “R” value, expansion index, and moisture-density relationship tests.
Mark Keppel High School – Alhambra Unified School District
AESCO performed a geotechnical investigation and materials testing and inspection for several
new structures at Mark Keppel High School. The new structures included a 2-story science
structure, a 3-story classroom, a single-story gymnasium, expansion of the existing library,
parking, and new ramp walkways. The geotechnical investigation provided foundation
recommendations, bearing pressures, and recommendations for site preparation. Pavement
recommendations for asphaltic concrete and concrete were also provided. AESCO was
responsible for the continuous welding inspection at the fabricator shop and during installation at
the construction site. AESCO’s inspector made concrete cylinder samples and performed slump
tests, air content tests, and quality control of the concrete. AESCO also performed inspection
and testing of the soil, rebar, reinforcing steel, anchor bolts, torque bolts, shear bolts, and epoxy
anchor.
Knott Avenue Pavement Rehabilitation-City of Buena Park
AESCO performed a pavement rehabilitation study for Knott Avenue between La Palma Avenue
and Orangethorpe Avenue for the City of Buena Park. Pavement and subgrade recommendations
were provided for a twenty year life of the pavement. A site survey was performed to determine
areas of degraded asphalt and where to place the borings. Several borings and coring of the
asphaltic concrete were performed.
State Route 405, 134, 210, 605, 170 and Interstate 10 Freeways – Washington Infrastructure, Tetra Tech and Parsons Brinckerhoff
AESCO completed aerially deposited lead studies for freeway expansion projects throughout Los
Angeles County. These projects involved sampling and logging over two hundred and fifty soil
borings and required obtaining regulatory permits from Caltrans, OSHA and various other
governmental agencies prior to the start of drilling.
Telecommunication Sites – Various Southern California Locations
AESCO provided geotechnical and environmental investigations for various telecommunication
facilities throughout Southern California for Cingular, Sprint, Nextel, Verizon, and AT&T. The
facilities generally consist of a monopole and support slab but also included three-legged and
guyed towers. The towers varied in height between 50 and 300 feet. Services included
providing recommendations for shallow foundations and cast-in-place drilled holes (caisson)
foundations and geologic/seismic review. Geotechnical foundation recommendations were
provided for towers located on steep slopes, within liquefaction zones, within Alquist-Priolo
Special Study Zones, in bedrock, and in areas with high groundwater. Several sites required
special mitigation to support the towers in areas not accessible to conventional drill rigs or in areas where it was not feasible to construct a deep foundation system. Materials testing services
included inspection and testing of concrete, foundations and cast-in-place drilled holes (caisson).
The projects are on-going.
Franklin Baldwin Trunk Line – City of Los Angeles, Department of Water and Power
AESCO designed and inspected the installation of the beam and plate shoring system. AESCO
performed a full geotechnical engineering investigation for the new trunk line. The high
pressure trunk line is 60” in diameter installed about 30 feet below the existing ground surface.
The trunk line crossed an existing street and rail road track. AESCO provided the engineering
recommendation for the shoring system and its installation. AESCO inspected the welding,
soldier beam excavation and installation of the shoring system. AESCO inspected the stability
of the excavations, selection of borrow source, procedure for placement and compactions of fill
materials.
